How long does facial and neck liposuction last?

When people think of liposuction, many people consider it to be a body procedure. For example, liposuction can be used to remove love handles. Liposuction can certainly be used on the body, and can be an effective way to achieve body contouring in people who find themselves with stubborn deposits of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise.
However, liposuction can actually be used in facial plastic surgery, too. Those who are concerned about a “double chin” may benefit from having liposuction in the area under the chin, to help contour the jawline and neck. Some people also choose to have liposuction of the cheeks, to make the face look slimmer and to emphasize the cheekbones.
If you choose to have liposuction on your face or neck, how long can you expect your results to last? Will you need to have the procedure repeated in the future?
Fat cells are permanently removed by liposuction
In general, in an adult (or even a teen) body, new fat cells are not being generated. The number of fat cells remains the same throughout life. When you gain or lose weight, this happens because your fat cells grow or shrink, by storing more fat or by using up their stored fat. However, the number of fat cells remains the same.
During a liposuction procedure, fat cells are removed through a cannula (a flexible tube that’s connected to suction). After liposuction, the area will have fewer fat cells than before. Because the body doesn’t generally grow new fat cells, this reduction in fat cells is permanent.
In this sense, we can say that liposuction results are permanent. If you choose to have facial or neck liposuction, the results should be lasting, and the fat tissue that’s removed won’t grow back.
What happens if you gain weight after liposuction?
If you gain a significant amount of weight after liposuction, then the fat cells throughout your whole body will get larger. This includes fat cells that are remaining in the area that was treated. Liposuction doesn’t make a body part completely immune to weight gain.
Still, the number of fat cells in the area will always be smaller than it would have been if you hadn’t had the procedure. This means that, even if you do gain weight, you’re likely to see less of a change in the treated area than you would have in the past.
It’s best to have liposuction when you’ve achieved a stable body weight, which is at or close to your goal weight. This helps to maintain your results. There will always be an effect from liposuction, but this doesn’t mean that your appearance can’t change if you gain weight.

If you’re concerned about unwanted deposits of fat tissue in your neck or on your face, then you may want to consider removing these through liposuction. It’s very important to use good surgical techniques and to carefully consider the potential effects of the procedure. For example, removing too much fat from the cheeks can result in a hollow and aged look.
If you’re younger, it’s also important to consider how the aging process is likely to affect your facial appearance, and to plan your procedure so that you have good long-term results. Some people choose to add fat to the face through facial fat transfer, so it’s important to remember that you may actually appreciate your facial fat tissue more as you age.
