Rhytidectomy – Facelift
Over time, the effects of gravity take their toll on our facial structures, leading to downward migration of the soft tissues. This is demonstrated by deepening folds between the nose and mouth, jowls, excess fat under the chin, and loose skin with a banded appearance in the neck. A face lift (or rhytidectomy) is performed to reposition the soft tissues and remove the excess skin.
Facelift techniques can vary depending on the individual needs of the patient, and can range between more and less aggressive approaches. To perform a facelift, incisions are made around the ears; so that the incisions are as inconspicuous as possible, part of the incision is hidden behind the cartilage in front of the ear while a significant portion of the incision is hidden in natural creases and along the hair line. An incision is made under the chin if liposuction or treatment of the muscle bands on the neck is required. A facelift primarily addresses the jaw line and neck, with limited benefit to the marionette creases that extend downward from the corners of the mouth and nasolabial folds between the nose, mouth, and mid face.
Nasolabial and marionette folds are best treated with dermal fillers. These fillers may include fat, Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, Radiesse®, Sculptra® Aesthetic.

Facial Implants
In order to enhance visual aspects of the face, we have facial implants for the cheeks and chin. By treating one or both of these features, Dr. Henderson can help reverse soft volume tissue lost due to age or weight loss, or augment sections of poor bone structure.
Neck and Mid-Face Lift
The neck and mid-face lift are excellent choices for those looking to wipe away signs of aging above or below the jawline, respectively. The neck lift reshapes the lines of the neck for a sleeker, more trimmed look, while the mid-face lift is well suited to soften the deeper nasolabial folds and reposition drooping cheek pads for some patients.
Fat Transfer Procedures
One way to give patients longer results with an all-natural filler is to utilize the fat transfer procedure. By gathering and utilizing fat from other parts of the patient, Dr. Henderson can help restore facial volume lost from age or dramatic weight loss.
Lip Enhancement
A full or pouty lip is often associated with a more sensual or youthful appearance. A variety of lip enhancement techniques are available to enlarge the lips. The technique that is chosen depends in part on the current size and shape of the lips, with the final decision based on the longevity of the results, the downtime and the risks. Augmentation materials such as fillers may be used in the lips, including Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® which are temporary with variable longevity. A patient’s fat may also be used with the advantage that longer term results may be achieved, although this often requires repeat treatments before the final results are achieved. Permanent procedures may be chosen in certain patients and include surgical advancements along the lip line and elevation at the base of the nose. A new soft silicone implant, PermaFacial™, is also available for off label use to provide permanent augmentation which is reversible.
